Behind the Batter

Decorate Your Holiday Heart Out! Santa Hats, Reindeer and More...

We're not sure it gets more fun than this! And when we say these DIY treats are easy to make, we mean it.  Do you ever see a recipe that claims to be "easy" only to start reading all of the steps and throw your hands up in defeat?  Well, that ain't happening this time!

All three DIY treats: Brownie Santa Hats, Reindeer and Dreidels will be the talk of your holiday party, whether you're hosting or bringing dessert to a potluck.

And, seriously, Brownie Dreidels for Hanukkah? How adorable are these? Come on, sing it with me... Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of clay, err, Brownies!).

And, if you're looking for something fun to make with the kids, consider yourself hooked up. Go on, decorate your holiday heart out!

Brownie Reindeer

What you will need:

  • Vermont Brownies - your favorite flavors (1 Brownie yields 2 Reindeer)
  • Baker's chocolate squares (we used semi-sweet)
  • Pretzels for antlers
  • Edible Eyes
  • Red M&M's

  • Cut Brownies in half.
  • Melt chocolate in double boiler or according to directions on package.
  • Once chocolate is melted, dip the top of the Brownie into the chocolate and set on plate, serving dish or sheet pan.
  • Place pretzels on top to create antlers.
  • Add edible eyes.
  • Place red M&M's under eyes to make a nose.

Brownie Santa Hats

What you will need:

  • Vermont Brownies - your favorite flavors (1 Brownie yields 4 Santa Hats)
  • Strawberries
  • White Icing

  • Cut Brownies into quarters.
  • Cut Strawberries so you have a flat bottom.
  • Put a small amount of frosting on the flat part of the strawberry so the "hat" sticks to the Brownie.
  • Place strawberry on Brownie and pipe frosting (or cream) on strawberries to make Santa hat pom poms and trimming.

Brownie Dreidels

What you will need:

  • Vermont Brownies - your favorite flavors (1 Brownie yields 4 Dreidels)
  • White Frosting
  • Pretzel Sticks
  • Blue Writing Icing

  • Cut Brownies into quarters.
  • Trim the bottom edges so the Brownies are shaped like a dreidel.
  • Cover Brownie in frosting.
  • Draw on Hebrew letters for Nun, Gimel, He, Shin (you can Google images for each letter)
  • Insert pretzel stick into dreidel. You may need to break off about a 1/3 of the pretzel stick so it doesn't break.

We hope you have as much fun making these DIY treats as we did.  Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to all!
